Production & Studio Assistant
Trueing is a boutique lighting design studio based in Long Island City, NY, with a focus on beautifully constructed hand-built fixtures. We are a close-knit and growing company of three looking for a stellar Production & Studio Assistant to join our team. This position would be perfect for someone who is good with their hands, has a strong eye for detail, and is interested in learning about running a small craft-based practice. This is a full-time, salaried position with the opportunity to grow with the business as we expand.
Position Level: Entry Level
Position Type: Full Time Permanent
Salary: $45,000 per annum
Benefits: 100% health, dental, and vision insurance coverage; 15 vacation days, 3 sick days, 2 personal days, 3 summer fridays, 4 holidays, and a winter break between December 25 - January 1
Summary:
The role of Production & Studio Assistant primarily supports our production team, including handling the intake of new parts and performing rigorous quality control. The position requires attention to detail and familiarity with completing repetitive tasks; the Production & Studio Assistant is the first line of defense in controlling the quality of the studio’s work. As such, the right candidate for this role will demonstrate a thorough and meticulous concern for all aspects of the production process, no matter how small.
Duties Include:
- Assembling, mailing, and tracking sample kits
- Performing inventory and quality control for incoming parts
- Pre-assembly processing, such as cutting rubber, applying stickers, measuring wire, and assembling hardware
- Wrapping, packing, and shipping fixtures
- Maintaining workshop organization and office tidiness, including assembling furniture and restocking supplies
- Please note: Occasionally, the Production & Studio Assistant may be asked to lift and move heavy boxes (up to 50 lbs) as part of their responsibilities
Desired Experience:
Experience working with your hands is a must — this can be anything from wood to clay to glass or metal — but it is essential that applicants understand the mechanics of fabrication and the importance of their role in creating a flawless final product. Experience in lighting is a plus, but not essential. This is an entry-level position and employees will be trained in the specificities of our process.
This position may be a good fit if you are:
- Confident with hand tools, careful assembly of small parts, and handling fragile objects
- Comfortable with hands-on tasks such as packing/unpacking boxes, building pre-made crates, and installing shelving units
- Detail-oriented
- Organized
- Proactive and complete tasks with a sense of urgency
- Someone who takes pride in your work and demonstrates care for your craft
HOW TO APPLY:
Please email jobs@trueing.com with your resume and a brief introduction telling us about your interest and relevant experience. A trial period of 3 months is required to ensure a good fit for you and for us. Following the interview stage, candidates may be invited to come in for a paid trial day to get a feel for the job.
